Clemson scientists awarded $1.57 million grant to study infections on medical implants
Clemson scientist Jeffrey Anker and four colleagues have been awarded a five-year, $1.57 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop a novel imaging technique and dye-based sensor to detect and monitor bacterial infections on implanted medical devices.

Student created medical device advances in competition
A medical device that has advanced to the second stage of a high-profile design competition was created by Clemson University bioengineering students. GlucoSense is competing for an international James Dyson Award after being named one of four runners-up in the U.S. national competition. new research could lead to safer football helmets
Growing concerns about brain trauma to football players have led to a new pact between Clemson University and two companies that could change the materials used to make helmets. Bioengineering and packaging science researchers will work with Innegra Technologies of Greenville and B&W Fiber Glass of Shelby, N.C., to evaluate whether Innegra-based composites could provide superior head protection to athletes involved in contact sports.

Former Clemson University basketball star gives $30,000 to alma mater
Utah Jazz power forward Trevor Booker told a room full of student entrepreneurs in the spring that he looked forward to hearing their business ideas and that he would help in any way he could. Now he’s making good on that promise. Booker said Monday that he is giving $30,000 to his alma mater, Clemson University, to support students in two separate programs.

Bioengineering class takes on real world problems
Today's headlines seem eerily familiar to John DesJardins' bioengineering students. Cholera outbreaks were the subject of a class assignment in DesJardins' bioengineering design course at Clemson University last fall semester — months before current cholera crises claimed thousands of lives in Haiti and Nigeria.
